Religion comes from the customs and believes of a certain community. Actually, religion is nothing but firm believes on some heavenly powers which provide a systematic lifestyle. Christianity is a very old and probably the most cultured religion in Africa. According to the World Book of Encyclopedia, Christianity is considered to be the second largest practiced religion throughout Africa. Sudden spread of Islamic religion in Northern Africa initially bumps the rapid growth of Christian category.

Having a look on the history of religion in Africa, you will see a variety of religion was practiced by the community members. A statistical survey on the accustomed religion in Africa reported that some traditional creeds are more popular in the rural area than Christian or Islamic categories. Later under the leadership of some great leaders Christianity became to flood all over the country.

Africa also comes under the country which was under colonialism for a pretty long time. And it is an obvious matter that ruling government left a deep impression on the matter of religious practice of the countrymen. That’s why Africa had tasted two different period of creed practice.

Religion in Africa before slavery was basically some rural and traditional habits of the countrymen. But Christianity is the most adopted religion in Africa after colonialism. Later the religious books and scriptures had been converted into local languages to increase the acceptability of this culture.

Today it is the most accepted custom throughout the Africa. In the history of religion in Africa, no other culture got that much appreciation. The enthusiastic and inspirational thought of Lord Jesus attracts the people to consent this creed. Quotes of Jesus are being translated to almost all the local languages.

According to a statistical survey report, within one year the numbers of Christians have increased from   nine million to nine hundred million people. This was a huge achievement for the bishops and the fathers who were leading the religion.

A lot of people are being influenced by the charming lifestyle of the bishops and Christian monks. Undoubtedly it is a superior religion in Africa.

  • A Christian mosaic preserved in ‘National Museum of Bardo’ is the sign of ancient Christian religion in Africa before slavery. An ample number of churches and monuments are established to promote the religion to the every residence of Africa.
  • A lot of modification has been done in Christian religion in Africa after colonialism. ‘Roman catholic Cathedral’ is one of the most significant sign of this custom.
